STUPID RSS — 3

grrrrrrr

I knew I wasn’t imagining thing when I thought this blog’s RSS didn’t work, it really didn’t work, some RSS readers were still able to read it, but most can’t, including LJ syndication. Turned out, I had ONE SINGLE GODDARN BLANK SPACE at the start of the RSS file, and it rendered the entire thing useless.

I had to go through every plugins, all 42 of them, to find out which one is the naughty one with extra line or space before or after the php enclosing.

who coded this shit? seriously… O_o

Icon Bleh
This icon isn’t mine, jacked from my friend’s MSN, suited my current mood very well

because I got bored easily….

This is foolhardy, but I feel like I need a dark theme for this site, so I can switch with the light theme when I feel like it. Problem is, I probably have to build it from ground up as I can’t find a suitable dark theme D:

Superfish with Wordpress — 1

New navigation get! fully ajaxified goodness, pretty?

superfish nav

disclaimer: I can’t really code, this is as much as I know, please don’t ask me uber nerdcore question ^^;;

After much googling, I stumbled upon Superfish, which is one of those ready-made javascript menu. The official description for this little package is ‘An enhanced Suckerfish-style menu plugin for jQuery. Now jQuery 1.2 ready!‘, while I have absolutely no idea why they called it ‘suckerfish-style menu‘, I do know what jQuery is*. Being a good codelifter that I am, I wasted no time trying to get it worked on my site, while the process should be straight forward, there’s couple of points that you might wanted to keep in mind if you want to use this on your Wordpress site.

1. you should call jQuery and superfish right before , after everything that already there.
2. superfish might conflict with your other ajax thingy, in my case, it conflicted with live search popup, what you can do is using jQuery.noConflict( ) when you call the superfish, like this:

Happy ajaxing!**

* jQuery is a javascript library that use mainly for those ajax effects, it became hottest thing in nerdland and replaced other libraries like prototype.js.

** or codelifting, like I do XD

Site theme update! — 2

site screencap 12/26 I finally have time to get around updating the look for this site again. I’ve been wanting to put site navigation on the top of the page for awhile, since it’s the best way to go, (forcing people to go to index page to navigate the site was a very poor decision, I’ve learned). This design is kinda like a bastard child of PocketT theme, with the core code from the old butchered TypoXP, pretty much a Frankenstein of Wordpress themes XD

Still have a bit more to do, need to clean up sidebar, styling comic pages, updating about page, making current page in navigation bar work somehow, and write about the setup of this site (which plugins used, which modifications I did and how, etc…)

guhh ><

front page suddenly doesn’t work, it supposed to show posts from last day which have posts, but for some reason, it suddenly don’t do that anymore. edit: I just realized what happened, due to my laziness, I set it so that it retrieved the date of last post, but not month and year, which I use current month and year instead, serve me right for being lazy . -.-

search form fixed

I finally fixed the search form on this site, now it is well functional. All you have to do is type and wait, and the results will appear below the search form itself, no need to hit enter or anything like that. (but, of course, you can still hit enter if you want, it just takes you to ugly search result page :P)

made possible with Addicted to Live Search plugin.

New Comic Viewing Layout

Sorry for spamming your rss @_@, I’m working on a new comic viewer for this site, which will be much better a system than the one that I’ve been using. I’ve been trying to get this done for a while, but due to my (very) limited PHP knowledge, and my idealistic tendency, it was a rather hard way around to get it done the way I want.

Now you will be able to read my comics in the format I intended, side by side spread pages, like you are reading the book. I have to do this because I realized how much I use the spread pages in my comics and those are lost when I put them up online, without proper viewing method. Tokyopop manga viewer let me see how much better it would be if I can display the comic this way.

The system I set isn’t fully automatic. actually, it’s rather primitive, I still have to post the pages manually, but it’s a couple of steps better than actually manually code html for each pages, and because it is inside wordpress, I can take advantage of the RSS, comment, stats, and stuff, not to mention that keeping everything in same place. Now I just have to hope that Wordpress won’t die on me XD

wp for webcomics

I decided to try to set up wp as a comic viewing (not the same as comicpress), and realized it wouldn’t work like I wanted without some serious modifications, so I scrap the project before I spent too much time on it, back to square one. =/

Wordpress 2.3

waaaai!

Done upgrading! XD

I cheated on the process of actual upgrade since since I used one-click install (let’s say, it’s automaaatic.), but cleaning up after that wasn’t an easy task. Main plugin I used, YAPB, actually broken, but a quick tip to its forum fixed that. Basically, every plugins that have anything to do with category at all will break, thank god I didn’t depend on any of those.

I went ahead cleaning up and resorting categories. I’ve been wanted to do this for a while since I dislike having too many categories and assigning more than one category to the post proved to be problematic with my theme, so it’s good to finally have Tags system to rely on, and yes, I went mad with tagging, but not every posts are properly tagged yet, still long way to go!

Overall, I’m very pleased with my site right now, altho there’s still some modifications I’d like to get done, they aren’t very important as the main system is completed.

does that mean I’ll post more craps from now on? you bet! XD
