look, ma, I got new toy!
I can’t deny that I have a fetish for web 2.0 (that’s terrible term, I know) stuff and OS X apps, My hobby is to find new one and try. Sadly to admit tho, about 80% of them don’t have staying power, meaning that I don’t use them more than twice at most, only few gem ones that survive my attention spans and become my faithfuls.
I think I just found another gem two days ago, it’s called Tumblr.

Tumblr is, in their own word, ‘..your friendly, free, and terrifically easy tool for creating tumblelogs.’ and tumblelog is.. according to wiki:
A tumblelog is a variation of a blog, that favors short-form, mixed-media posts over the longer editorial posts frequently associated with blogging. Common post formats found on tumblelogs include links, photos, quotes, dialogues, and video. Unlike blogs, this format is frequently used to share the author’s creations, discoveries, or experiences without providing a commentary.
while I never keep this kind of blog before, it seems to be something that I should have done ages ago, while I generally don’t have anything coherent to blog everyday, I happened to stumbled upon so many random craps and snipnets on the net that I just let them passed by, or sharing with my friends over IM at most, I could have posted them in one place for later references, the reason I don’t post those into blogs because, believe it or not, even the blogs are totally my own, any no one would say anything, I fear I would cluster the blogs with nonsenses, I felt like each post warrent at least a few cohesive sentences and preferably with title, which I found I don’t have those most of the time, and I end up not bloging anything, terrible I know.
while other blog services/scripts can do anything tumblr do, tumblr stand out to me by NOT doing most of the thing normal blog services/scripts do, tumblr has no comment system, title is optional, no trackback, no archive, no category or tag (altho that might change, people seems to be requesting for tag) there’re 5 kind of post you can make, normal post, quote, link, photo, video, conversation, each has its own formatting.
besides allowing you to post whatever the hell you want fast and easy, what they also do is, again, in their own word, “You can add any RSS or ATOM syndication feed, and have its posts automatically appear on your tumblelog. Not only that, but you can choose for the imported posts to be formatted as: Regular Posts, Regular Posts without titles, Photos, or Links.”, This, by far, is THE feature that got me hooked, that mean, I can continue using my lj, flickr, and dA, without having to switch other to new blog and can still have the place that every of my posts are together, one blog to rule them all.
other feature that is what make it shines is their bookmarklet, if you just click on the bookmarklet, it will post the current site you open as blog, but if you highlight some text, it will post as quote instead, but if the site was flickr, or it was just an image, it will post that as photo, and lastly, if the site was youtube, it knows and post that as video, how cool is that?
because of my terrible habit with these web 2.0 services, dare me to use it more than a week, and if I fail, I’ll have to pay a terrible penance, which I can’t say publicly what is it, but believe me, it’s terrible XD
but I shall prevail! let’s the random craps blogging begins!
