Comic and stuff…

I gotta have to come up with better post title.

Website for Liquidcity anthology is up. This is an anthology featuring creators from south east asia and beyond, put together by Sonny Liew. I contributed 8 (or was it 7? haha) pages comics called ‘Me and My Food’. Among the contributors, there’s FSC, Jon Foster, whose name I recognized. Other name I recognized is Hu Jingxuan, whose work was in MIMC2 initial screening as well.

On other news, I did inking (and toning) job a few months ago, for a comic called Dog Eaters, which sadly the writer decided to switch to colors instead of bw as it was initially planned (bw don’t sell =/ ) so I only did the preview issue, which is now available for download as PDF format here.

I like inking job, it’s good to have little income while working on my own stuff which might probably not make any money, if anyone need inking/toning monkey, let me know.

stuff stuff stuff

I have this weird habit that I just don’t like drawing in sketchbook at all, I just can’t do it, I prefer drawing in individual sheet, not just comic page, but every sketches, doodles, even to write down ideas. I tried to use sketchbook, I have a few, but never be able to stick to them till they are filled out, before I know, I grab a printer paper and draw on it.

some random doodles

and, look what I got!

It’s much bigger than I thought.

tehehehehehe

it looks good in prints!

*sigh* This is why I tried so hard, seeing my works in prints worth everything, now I just need to draw something that people will actually buy, ehehehehe

Read what my friend had to go through to get these baby done, XD funny cos this was the same kinkos I went with her last year and the guy there was very good and friendly and knew what he was doing, oh, he also said I’ll kick Frank Miller’s ass, LoL (I think he jinxed me. :P )

I was exploring a lot of POD, I hope I didn’t have to resort to that, but if it comes to the worst, at least I still have option. (money, what money?)

Yukito Kishito Copied Frank Miller?? WTF?

My childhood is completely destroyed, I lost faith in humanity and now I worship Satan.*

I don’t know what to think, yukito kishiro is my inspiration, one of the reason I wanted to draw comic actually. Altho I admire Frank Miller, I have never seen any of his work besides Sin City and I can’t say that he inspired me the same way as Yukito Kishiro did. I’m a little more than heart-broken.

This blog, which is where I found this devastating truth, is dedicated to documenting (exposing?) comic art copying, I think, since I can’t read anything there but the images alone explained enough. This is the issue that I have been wondering for a while ever since I that found Slamdunk ‘heavily referenced’ from real photo and then another yaoi artist (which name completely lost to me since I don’t like that kinda style) got caught ‘copying’ from photo. When does referencing stop becoming referencing and start becoming copying? Is one or a couple of copied panels bad enough that it destroys the merit of the whole series? Is Slamdunk less enjoyable now that you know the artist didn’t draw everything from his head? Should we maybe be more forgivable with these little incidents? after all, referencing is as old as art itself, maybe some are just too obvious than other. I know it’s terribly hypocritical of me now that I want to overlook when people I like get caught doing it when otherwise I would condemn anyone else to hell and back.

I don’t know, what do you think?

*kidding, I’d rather abuse him than worship him.

Classic Doctor Who theme (thanks to my good British informant)

Gloomy Sunday

rezso seress szomorú vasárnap

The Hungarian “Gloomy Sunday” is an infamous song. Hauntingly beautiful, the story goes that the song was so sad, so depressing, so completely soul crushing, that upon hearing it even once, Hungarians were driven to suicide. And not just a few, during its era, hundreds of suicides were attributed to the melody.

Part of English translation of the original Hungarian:

The world has come to its end,
hope has ceased to have a meaning
Cities are being wiped out,
Meadows are colored red with human blood,
There are dead people on the streets everywhere.
I will say another quiet prayer:
People are sinners, Lord, they make mistakes …

The world has ended!

Yummy Pencil

I wasn’t going to post this, but I felt strangely motivated today, like I could walk on the moon.

This is probably the cleanest pencil I’ve ever done. I’ve never done quite detailed pencil like this before, but last inking job inspired me to, and damn right it looks cool. I usually did a very rough pencil and make a lot of decision regarding lighting/shading in inking state, I don’t know yet if detailed penciling will be faster way of working for me or not, I’ll report back.

I also change my mind regarding MIMC3, I already finished script for it. It was quite different kind of story than what I used to do. It will be fun, I’ll post the pencil regularly here. I’m in showing off mood :D

A lot of people told me that I perform best under duress, I tend to agree, it’s not a good trait, but it helps me survive this far. This is my worse year yet, I have a feeling that something very good will come out of it.

real ink on real paper — 1

watching Amy Reeder Hadley Inking Demo made me wonder if I can still ink on paper, I haven’t done it for like a couple of years, turn out I still got it in me, I guess inking is like bicycling, you just don’t forget it :)

Maybe I should do my next comic like this? I don’t think inking digitally really save me much time, mainly because I tend to wander off surfing while inking (the temptation was just THERE, I can’t help it), but I don’t know, I get used to do everything digitally… ARGH

I’m working on new plot idea, hopefully I can finalize it in a couple of day and get some test pages going. Also, I might not enter MIMC3, to be honest, looking at winning/finalist this year, I don’t know what it takes to win, and if you don’t know where to aim, how can you hit the mark? I guess I’d better reserve my energy and doing my own things, compete with myself.
