Ascended~! (a Guildwars rant)

I’ve been playing LOTS of guildwars this month, resulting in the ascension of two characters, a Necro/mesmer (formerly necro/ranger), who is definitely DD, spamming conjure phantasm and conjure nightmare inbetween a bunch of death magic attack, and warrior/monk (sometimes mesmer, sometimes necro) who has tendency to overaggro :P, my necro also already ascended in factions. I haven’t finished any of the campaign tho. soon I hope.
My overall playtime is about 100 hours or so, I’d have finished prophecies sooner, had I been more enthusiastic about the game. That was what was weird about guildwars, everyone I played with didn’t like it at first, but it grows on you when you found right buddies to play with, and before you know it, it become the only game you play. Even my brother, who refused vehemently to play it, until he really run out of anything to play (beside Audition), after only about a week, he was hooked with his uber Mesmer/Necro who has energy to keep up entire army of bone fiends and still have enough to hex/dehex.
Concerning Guildwars 2
I’d never be a hardcore player in any games, and Guildwars is the first MMO that actually allow casual player to enjoy end-game contents, I’d never ever dream of getting TOP armor and weapon in Lineage II, that would cost blood, kidney, and your first born. But in Guildwars, you can get them just by playing it, you can enjoy fighting big boss without having to be in a hundred people guild full of assholes and asslickers, you can enjoy hard dungeons and maps without having to shout for party for hours.
I’m a bit concerned about Guildwars 2, they are going to introduce everything I HATE about MMO back to the game, everything that made me hate other MMO, more levels to grind, persistent map to deal with assholes, no click to move, which is the only control I can tolerate, I HATE running with keyboard and always see your character’s ass like in WoW, in other word, I’m really not looking forward to it.

I’m being optimistic, hoping they retain enough enough of the original GW elements that it’s different enough to play alongside GW without losing everything that made it popular and, well, unique among a slew of typical subscription grindfests. As long as there are enough instances and a way to control PvP, I’m hoping it still allows you to get away from the jerks; but one more big worry is the economy, a case of the have and have nots arising. We’ve seen what can happen when it gets out of control in Lineage 2, and although some items are expensive — just looking at the material trader prices — they don’t seem impossible. Lineage 2 gear always felt impossible. I’ve never had to buy from a player in GW, being happy with what I can farm on my own, because, unless you’re really into PvP and having perfect gear, there is not pressure to keep up with the Joneses.
