All Hail Miss Teen USA: South Carolina

someone from somethingawful transcribed the whole thing:

Q: Recent polls have shown a fifth of americans can’t locate the U.S. on a world map. Why do you think this is?

Miss South Carolina: I personally believe that U.S. Americans are unable to do so because ah some people out there in our nation don’t have maps, and uh I believe that our education like such as in South Africa and the Iraq, everywhere like such as, and I believe that they should, our education over here, in the U.S. should help the U.S. err should help South Africa and should help the Iraq and the asian countries so we will be able to build up our future for our…

According to Wiki:

During the Final Question round, Caitlin Upton of South Carolina, was asked by Aimee Teegarden why she thought a fifth of Americans are unable to locate the United States on a world map. Her response, which involved references to South Africa and “the Iraq,” has been criticized as “strange” and “grammarless,” and was also described as an “extreme blonde moment.” Videos of her response were posted to the video sharing site Youtube and have garnered over two and a half million views.[8] In spite of this answer, Miss Upton was given third runner-up (fourth-place) over Miss West Virginia.

Why didn’t they just scrap all these pretense of intelligence from these kind of contests altogether? clearly it doesn’t really affect a thing how dumb you are, as long as you have the looks.

The sad thing is, she will probably be making more money than lots of you and me by just look alone, who needs brain when you have boobs?

  1. Kayay Says:

Upton said she “completely misunderstood” the question. “I didn’t do anything wrong,” she said. “I wasn’t expecting (the question). I lost my train of thought.”

I understand the brain fart bit, being under pressure and all, but “misunderstood” implies the question was in some way complicated or poorly worded. It was pretty straightforward imo.

lol she managed to insult 3 different countries in a question that’s implying how US education is poor.. i wonder if she can point out US in a map..
