Review of the-game-that-shall-not-be-named alpha test
It’s a sad day in MMO history T^T

I just *alpha* tested **THE** MMO that I have been waiting for YEARS. Due to it being in alpha state, I shall not name the name just yet, but let’s say, it’s based on a very famous fantasy novel, which was made into trilogy movies a while ago, enough hint?
my opinion? : IT SUCKS.
now, before you said it’s just alpha test and we should give it time to adjust, well, it’s too late now, cos it sucks at the principle, the basic level, the very foundation of the game.
The graphic sucks.
First, the design, I’m stereotyping here, pardon me, but geeez, hire off-shore korean/chinese graphic artists if you can’t hire local quality artists! >< the design sucks, the 3d model looks like standard poser model, the texture color tone are all dull and everything is so brown. The Design sucks BIG time. the starting armor and weapon is so dull and fugly which surprised me since they have solid based materials to work on.
They broke #1 human body design rule: don’t make torso longer than thigh, it just looks retard.
AND must *certain race* be fat?? last time I checked, not everybody from that race is fat, in fact, the most well-known one is very CUTE and right proportioned.
again, they broke the #1 rule.
Gimmick character customization.
This kind of ‘customization’ was used in a few western MMO, most noticeably Everquest, and it sucks then, it still sucks now. The kind that let you change countless style of eyes, noses, mouth, eyes color, hair.. but sadly, these option are, more often than not, too subtle and not very much different from one another, and most of the time, you cannot see the different at all in the game, everyone ending up looking the same. Instead of having countless similar options, it’s better to have a few, but more distinctive options. (hate to say this, but WoW almost has it right)
This kind of customization only give users a false sense of options, it’s really nothing but a misuse of polygon count and data.
The misuse of polygon count is not only on characters models, but backgrounds as well, they really need to optimized their models big time ><
Now, if you just called me graphic whore and you don’t care for those points I made (and you can’t tell the different between stick figure and Boris Vallejo’s works) I have some good news for you.
The gameplay sucks too :D
UI is nothing special to talk about, very standard, which could be good or bad. There is no option for point and click, I understand that most western kids don’t like point and click, but there’s people that do, it should be an option. Animation is slow and awkward. everybody walking/running funny. The battle is very cumbersome, It’s just slow.. and, well, awkward. You just don’t feel the impact when your character attack at all. it doesn’t look like you are attacking the target. There’s no necessarily flashy effects, even the damage numbers were popping up in slow motion, go figure.
spawn rate sucks, and this is the noob area which spawn rate shouldn’t be a problem, yet I spent most of the time just looking/waiting for the next target. hard to tell the different between npc and player and mobs, no different between building that you can enter and building that you can not.
did I mention the battle sucks?
It’s too late to change any principle graphic now, the best they can do is overhaul the battle system, tighten it up and make it actually PLAYABLE.
not that I am going to play it, not in a million years. my verdict is that, it’s going to be the new SWG, going straight to the bottom of MMO hell where everquest, earth & beyond and The matrix online reside.
